BACKGROUND OF THE TEMPLE
The Buddhapadpa Temple is a Buddhist centre. It is affiliated to the Royal Thai Embassy in London. It was officially inaugurated by His Late Majest King Bhumibol (Rama IX) and the Queen of Thailand on the 1st of August 1966 when it was at 99 Christchurch Road East Sheen London SW14.
Aim and Objects are to disseminate the teaching of the Buddha of the Theravada tradition. In 1975, the committee decided to purchase the present premises formerly known as Barrogill House and moved here in November 1976.
The grounds of the temple cover an area of approximately 4 acres in which is situated on an ornamental lake, a small grove, flower-garden and orchard. The main house and cottage are traditional style building. The Uposatha Hall or the Main Temple is in the traditional Thai style.
