As part of our Spring Retreat (23rd – 27th April 2025), we warmly invite you to a special panel discussion featuring Bhante Seelawimala, Ajahn Laow Panyasiri, and Ajahn Sujan. This inspiring evening will explore the journey of Buddhism from its Eastern origins to its growing presence and relevance in the West. Our distinguished speakers will share their personal stories, reflections on teaching Dhamma in the UK, and the challenges and beauty of guiding diverse communities on the path.

 

Meet the Speakers

🌼 Bhante Seelawimala
Chief Sanghanayake of Great Britain, Bhante Seelawimala is the Head Monk of the London Buddhist Vihara and a senior figure in the Theravāda tradition. Originally from Sri Lanka, he received higher ordination in the Siam Nikaya and pursued advanced Buddhist studies. Over many years of service in the UK, he has played a key role in education, interfaith dialogue, and community development, offering deep wisdom with gentle compassion.

🌼 Ajahn Laow Panyasiri
Abbot of Wat Buddhapadipa and Chairman of the Council of Thai Buddhist Monks in the UK, Ajahn Laow brings a unique blend of traditional Thai forest training and academic excellence, having earned a doctorate from the University of Birmingham. His leadership has been central to the temple’s growth as a vibrant place of spiritual practice, and he is widely respected for his calm demeanor, clarity in teachings, and dedication to preserving and sharing the Dhamma.

🌼 Ajahn Sujan
Born in Kathmandu, Nepal, Ajahn Sujan began his spiritual journey in 1997 after encountering a Buddhist monastery while studying fine arts. He was ordained in 1998, later taking higher ordination at Wat Paknam in Bangkok. With academic training in Buddhist Studies and years of service in the UK, he founded the Varapunya Meditation Centre in Aberdeen, where he now serves as abbot and trustee chair. His teaching blends insight, cultural openness, and a grounded approach to practice.
